IV Sedation & General Anaesthetic

IV Sedation procedures are conducted at nib Dental Care Centres, in the surgery. Prior to having dental treatment with IV Sedation you will need to visit an nib Dental Care Centre for a check-up and x-rays and a review of your medical history. The sedation is provided by an accredited anaesthetist with a registered nurse present to assist procedures. IV Sedation is often referred to as ‘twilight sedation’.

Benefits of IV Sedation:

  • Relax during your treatment – IV sedation alleviates the stress and anxiety sometimes associated with dental treatment
  • Time effective – you can often have multiple treatments completed in one session
  • Treatment in familiar surroundings – treatment is provided on site at an nib Dental Care Centre.

General Anaesthetic procedures are conducted in private hospitals. Before going to hospital, you will need to visit an nib Dental Care Centre for a check-up and x-rays and a review of your medical history. We can then arrange for your dental treatment to be provided at a private hospital by an accredited dentist from an nib Dental Care Centre

Benefits of General Anaesthetic:

  • Sleep through – you’ll sleep through the entire procedure
  • Time effective – you can often have multiple treatments completed in one session
  • Treatment in safe and comfortable surroundings – the staff at the private hospital work closely with the nib Dental Care Centre team to provide a comfortable and safe experience. Most dental patients are admitted as day patients and are discharged within a few hours of their procedure.

IV Sedation and General Anaesthetic treatments are available to all patients who are medically fit for the procedure. You don’t have to have private health insurance to have dental treatment under IV Sedation or General Anaesthetic.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
