What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule provides eligible families with children under 18 years old with access to a benefit of over $1052* for eligible dental services over a two calendar year period.

What treatment does the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) cover?

The CDBS provides benefits for a range of dental services including:

  • Dental Check-ups
  • X-rays
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Fissure sealing
  • Fillings
  • Root canals
  • Tooth extractions

Benefits are not available for orthodontics or cosmetic dental work and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital.

Who is eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?

To be eligible for the payment, your child must be aged between 0 and 17 years old, eligible for Medicare, and you or they are getting an eligible payment at least once a year from the Government.
It is simple to check whether your child is eligible – you can:
1. Check your myGov online account, in the Medicare section – it will advise whether your children are eligible.
2. Call Medicare on 13 20 11.
3. Call your local nib Dental clinic with your Medicare card number and we can enquire on your behalf.
4. Enter your details into our online form and we will call you to discuss eligibility.
